January Edvice- Selections From The New Rules of Job Searching

I'm currently reading "The AI-Savvy Job Seeker." In 2026 I'm going to emphasize how AI affects your job search and what you need to do to improve your chances of landing the job you want. Here's a summary of important points from chapter one:

  1. Employers value: Transferable skills; adaptability; continuous learning.

  2. The New Normal includes freelancing and part-time contracting.

  3. AI has caused a seachange across multiple industries. Study and learn to use it.

  4. While some industries and jobs are in a nose-dive, others are sky-rocketing, including: Data science, machine learning, software development, healthcare, virtual and augmented reality, biotech, and e-commerce.

  5.  Complacency is a silent killer.

  6.  Neglect your online presence at your peril.

  7. Soft skills (emotional intelligence, adaptability, problem-solving, and communication) are valued more than hard skills.

  8.  You've must develop your personal brand. What do you stand for? What's your professional tag line? Get real with story-telling.

  9. Network strategically: Engage regularly on professional social media platforms;  attend industry events. Offer value to connections; don't just ask for favors.

  10. Embrace an entrepreneurial attitude. Be the CEO of your own career. This means being proactive, developing resilience; and always looking for better ways to do things.

Welcome to 2026. Let's gets started!
